Natural Remedies for Migraine

Migraines differ from usual headaches. There is a constant feeling of hammering on specific head spots when it hits you, which can last up to a few hours or days. Migraine can make you bed-ridden for several days if not taken seriously. Although the actual cause of migraine is unknown, still we can know the food items which trigger a migraine.

There are several drugs available in the market for alleviating Migraine Pain. There are also drug-free ways to tackle this illness, saving you from the side effects of the medications used. Below, we will be discussing few natural remedies prescribed for people suffering from frequent migraines.

These natural remedies are beneficial to lessen migraine pain and stopping it from frequently occurring in the future.

  • Acupressure: Acupressure is an ancient Chinese therapy of acupuncture. You put pressure on particular points on your body called acupoints to observe a healing effect. Pressure point LI-4, known as Hegu, is used for alleviating pain from headaches and migraines. It is located in between the base of your index finger and thumb. Put pressure on this spot for several minutes, not exceeding five minutes. Do not press so hard that it starts to pain. Repeat the same on your other hand.
  • Feverfew plant: Feverfew plant resembles daisies. Its taxonomic name is Tanacetum parthenium. It works as a natural placebo for migraines. If your pain is immeasurably high, try this herb. You should take it orally. However, pregnant and lactating women should not use feverfew.
  • Lavender: Although feverfew acts as a placebo, lavender can help treat regular headaches and migraines. You have to take it through the nose. You can inhale the lavender essential oil to manage migraine attacks. You can also put some drops of lavender oil into boiling water and inhale the vapors. Take care not to ingest the oil as it is toxic if eaten.
  • Ginger: If neither lavender nor feverfew is available, you can use ginger essential oil. Rub on your temples (area between the ears and eyes), forehead, and back of your neck. Rub it as frequently as possible in a day to get rid of the pain. You can also drink ginger tea for treating complications that come along with migraines.
  • Peppermint oil: You can put few drops of peppermint essential oil in boiling water just like you did for lavender essential oil and inhale the vapors emerging from it. You can also have Peppermint tea for the same results. Although no study proved its efficacy in migraines, it does help to provide relief to some degree.
